The Fish Eagle Safari is a 6-day adventure that combines the pristine waterways of the Okavango Delta with the cultural and spiritual landscapes of Tsodilo Hills. Beginning in the remote Jao area of the Delta, travellers experience traditional mokoro journeys through winding channels, island walking safaris and unforgettable sunsets on the water.

After exploring the Delta’s wildlife and local communities, the safari continues north to the sacred Tsodilo Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its ancient rock art and cultural significance. Here guests hike the dramatic hills, watch spectacular sunrises and sunsets and experience traditional San culture.

This safari offers a balanced combination of wilderness exploration, cultural discovery and peaceful time immersed in Botswana’s most iconic landscapes.

This six-day journey begins with a flight from Maun into the heart of the Okavango Delta where guests explore the beautiful waterways of the Jao area by traditional mokoro canoe and on guided island walks. After several days of wildlife viewing and cultural experiences, the safari travels north to Tsodilo Hills, a sacred cultural landmark famous for its ancient rock art and dramatic landscapes.

Guests spend time hiking the hills, learning about the history of the area and enjoying spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The safari concludes with a return flight from Shakawe back to Maun.

Day 01 :

Day 1 – Arrival in Jao

Guests depart from Maun by light aircraft and land at Jao Airstrip in the Okavango Delta. From the airstrip a traditional mokoro canoe transfer takes guests through the waterways to the campsite. After time to rest and settle in, enjoy afternoon high tea followed by a mokoro excursion through the Delta channels. The day ends with a beautiful sunset and sundowner before dinner at camp

Day 02 :

Day 2 – Delta Island Safari & Village Visit

The day begins early with breakfast before heading out by mokoro for an island walking safari. Guests explore the Delta islands on foot with a guide while learning about local wildlife and ecosystems. After returning to camp for lunch and rest, the afternoon includes a visit to a nearby village to learn about local culture. Sundowners are enjoyed before returning to camp for dinner.

Day 03 :

Day 3 – Mokoro Safari & Boat Cruise

Another morning mokoro excursion and island walk allows guests to further explore the wildlife and birdlife of the Delta. After lunch and relaxation at camp, the afternoon activity is a scenic boat cruise through the waterways of the Okavango Delta, ending with sunset views and sundowners before dinner.

Day 04 :

Day 4 – Journey to Tsodilo Hills

After breakfast guests depart the Delta and travel to Tsodilo Hills with a packed lunch. The journey takes approximately five hours through the remote landscapes of northern Botswana. After arriving at camp guests relax before an afternoon walk around the hills to explore the unique rock formations and watch the sunset. Dinner is served at camp.

Day 05 :

Day 5 – Exploring Tsodilo Hills

Wake early to experience sunrise at Tsodilo Hills. After breakfast guests enjoy guided walks through the hills, learning about the ancient rock art and cultural history of the area. Following lunch and rest, an afternoon hike offers additional exploration of the surrounding landscape. The evening concludes with dinner and a traditional Bushman dance performance.

Day 06 :

Day 6 – Departure

After breakfast guests travel to Shakawe Airstrip with a stop for morning coffee along the way. From Shakawe a charter flight returns guests to Maun where the safari ends and travellers continue to their onward flights.
