This 7-day family safari journey explores some of Botswana’s most remarkable landscapes while combining wildlife experiences, cultural encounters and hands-on learning for children. Beginning in Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta, the adventure continues into the wildlife-rich Moremi Game Reserve where families enjoy game drives, animal tracking activities and bush experiences.

The safari then travels north to the Okavango Panhandle and Shakawe, offering river adventures and a glimpse into everyday life in rural Botswana. The journey concludes at the sacred Tsodilo Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ancient rock art and cultural significance.

Throughout the safari, families take part in interactive activities designed to connect children with nature, including wildlife tracking, storytelling, bush skills and cultural experiences. The itinerary balances adventure, education and relaxation while creating meaningful shared experiences in one of Africa’s most extraordinary wilderness regions.

Day 01 :

Day 1 – Arrival in Maun

Arrival at Maun Airport where you will be welcomed by your host. Guests may stay one night in Maun or fly directly to Moremi Game Reserve. Activities may include a relaxed city walk exploring local markets and shops. In the evening enjoy a welcome dinner and introduction to the safari. Children begin their safari journal where they record the animals and experiences they discover.

Day 02 :

Day 2 – Moremi Wildlife Adventures

After breakfast guests transfer to Moremi Game Reserve by light aircraft (approximately 30 minutes). Upon arrival enjoy a picnic lunch before heading out on your first game drive. Kids take part in wildlife tracking activities learning how to identify animal footprints and signs. Afternoon high tea is followed by another game drive and sundowners in the bush before dinner and storytelling around the campfire.

Day 03 :

Day 3 – Safari Learning & Exploration

Morning game drive followed by coffee in the bush. After lunch children participate in a fun wildlife survival game where they “think like an animal” and learn about food chains and animal behaviour. In the afternoon young guests become “Junior Guides”, learning basic guiding skills and leadership while exploring around the campsite. The day ends with an evening game drive and dinner under the stars.

Day 04 :

Day 4 – Okavango Delta & Travel to Shakawe

Depart Moremi and fly to Shakawe in the Okavango Panhandle. After arrival visit local shops and experience everyday Botswana life. Check into a comfortable lodge and enjoy time relaxing at the pool or participating in a barefoot nature walk activity. In the late afternoon enjoy a sunset boat cruise in the Delta with a fun river wildlife scavenger hunt.

Day 05 :

Day 5 – Journey to Tsodilo Hills

After breakfast depart by vehicle for Tsodilo Hills. Upon arrival enjoy lunch at the campsite followed by an introduction to the history and significance of the hills. Visit the Tsodilo Hills Museum and explore the surrounding landscape on a guided walk. The evening ends with sunset reflections, dinner and campfire storytelling while learning about African constellations.

Day 06 :

Day 6 – Culture, Nature & Family Activities

Morning activities include cave drawing inspired by ancient rock art and a family yoga session. Guests may climb the hills or explore the caves on a guided walk. Afternoon activities include a symbolic family storytelling activity inspired by the rock art heritage of Tsodilo Hills. Guests may also participate in bush skills training or traditional cooking demonstrations before an evening celebration with music and dance.

Day 07 :

Day 7 – Village Visit & Departure

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before visiting a nearby village where guests meet local craft makers and learn traditional skills such as basket weaving. Families enjoy a packed lunch in the village before transferring to Shakawe Airstrip for the return flight to Maun and onward international connections.
